Families

Information for Parents and Guardians:

We match qualified, screened UC Berkeley students as mentors for interested students at Willard Middle School. Our mentors commit at least one year to working with a child, striving to help students develop cultural sensitivity, improve their leadership skills and self-esteem, and learn civic responsibility through safe, fun activities.

Mentors are committed to working with mentees on tutoring as well as social activities. They volunteer three hours a week with their student, spending at least one hour on schoolwork and two hours on mentoring activities such as talking, playing sports, hanging out at lunch or after school on campus, attending YSP events, and going on field trips (with parent/guardian permission).

Testimonials

"This program has been amazing for my son. His mentor is on-point, reliable, good for him and doesn't let him get away with anything. As a result of his mentor, my son has gone from a C/D student to an A/B student. I cried when I saw his report card. His mentor is a part of our family."

"I can't thank you enough for having the end of the year celebration. We felt like stars. The Oscar theme was amazing, and it was such a classy event. We feel blessed to be a part of this program. I want to thank you for having a program like this."
